We are Happy Socks, an innovative fashion company that specializes in designing and producing unique, high-quality fashion items. We sell directly to consumers through our online and physical channels, as well as wholesale to a range of partners. We leverage technology to drive business insights and operational efficiency. At Happy Socks, we are hard at work creating our new Data Platform! We are now looking to add a permanent Data Engineer to our team to help with the completion of the initial project, but also to be a part of the overall data strategy as well as the data modeling and transformation tasks. Our data team plays a crucial role in shaping our data-driven culture and enabling decision-making across the organization.
Role Overview:
We are looking for a skilled Data Engineer to join our tech team. In this role, you will be responsible for designing, building, and maintaining scalable data pipelines and infrastructure to support various data initiatives. A key aspect of this role is the ability to quickly build comprehensive mental models of all the data we have, in different forms, from various systems. This will be crucial for identifying relationships between data points and enabling effective data integration. You will work closely with analytics specialists, analysts, and other engineers to ensure clean, reliable, and well-structured data is available for business decision-making. You will also contribute to the planning, design, and architecture of the data foundations project, resulting in a comprehensive roadmap for our Data Platform.
Key Responsibilities:
- Ensure the operational health of data pipelines and systems, proactively monitoring and setting up alerts to identify and address issues before they impact the business.
- Ensure data correctness and quality throughout all stages of data processing.
- Design, build, and maintain scalable data pipelines to support ELT/ETL processes and data warehousing as well as pulling data from various data sources, including third-party APIs and using tools like Fivetran.
- Collaborate with analytics specialists, analysts, and other teams to ensure data availability, correctness, and reliability.
- Maintain and ensure the proper functioning of our Data Warehouse, which is at the heart of the data platform.
- Set up data modeling and transformation frameworks in line with business processes, resulting in aggregated or transformed views or tables ready for downstream consumption.
- Serve data that is ready for consumption in downstream applications like reports or dashboards as required by business users.
- Implement best practices for versatility, reliability, ease of maintenance of the data platform as well as data governance, security, and compliance.
- Optimize and manage data storage solutions, focusing on performance, cost, and scalability.
Requirements:
- Strong operational skills with the ability to ensure pipelines and systems are running smoothly, including proactive monitoring and issue identification.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to ensure data correctness and consistency.
- Proven experience in data modeling, data warehousing, designing and building data pipelines and ELT/ETL processes.
- Strong proficiency in SQL and experience with at least one programming language (e.g., Python).
- Experience with cloud platforms (e.g., AWS, Azure, GCP) and data pipeline tools (e.g., Apache Spark, Airflow, Fivetran).
- Experience with data transformation tools like DBT.
- Experience with data storage technologies such as Snowflake, relational databases, NoSQL, or data lakes.
- Ability to troubleshoot data-related issues and optimize data flows.
Nice to Have:
- Knowledge of GDPR regulations and experience in anonymizing PII data.
- Experience with data visualization and reporting tools like Sigma.
- Familiarity with machine learning workflows and supporting data requirements.
Most importantly, you have the personality to fit a somewhat crazy, fun work environment where we believe in color and playfulness, a place where you can expect the unexpected and you are a source of creative weirdness.
