We are now shifting our online business in China from Distribution to Wholesale and are therefore opening our first office in Shanghai! Do you want to join this journey as our China Marketing Manager?

As our sole representative in the market, you’ll be responsible for managing the trade partner and distributor relationships and executing local marketing activities for Happy Socks, ensuring that the local marketing strategy is aligned with Happy Socks’ Global marketing efforts. This role will play a key role in driving our China business, developing and executing growth-oriented sales strategy while elevating the brand.

You’ll report to the Chief Commercial Officer, working in close collaboration with the Global Marketing Department, regional commercial teams, and the local trade and distribution partner. The China Marketing Coordinator based at HQ will support and help you drive the business.

Tasks & Responsibilities

  • Develop the China marketing strategy, plan and budget as well as execute and optimize the actual marketing plan, aligned with the global marketing strategy
  • Develop a go-to-market strategy & build out the business across China, establishing and maintaining strategic, strong relationships with our distributor and Trade Partner
  • Set sales objectives, goals, and have direct responsibility for monitoring established targets with the distributor and Trade Partner, to achieve and exceed sales goals and continuously enhance market share
        • Manage and lead country-level marketing campaigns and product launches by partnership with the local distributor and Trade Partner & global marketing teams
        • Understand market trends and be the Voice of the Market, ensuring needs, trends, and limitations are taken into consideration
        • Signal market opportunities to drive brand growth in China
        • Translate global marketing initiatives to local initiatives, and make it work with the resources we have
        • Work collaboratively with the local distributor across both retail and digital marketing teams to align on key aspects of brand and business in the region, i.e. pricing, markdown cadence, product positioning to ensure an omni-channel approach
        • Set strategies for all Chinese social media channels and guide the distributor’s online marketing team, considering paid activities, influencer marketing, and organic content
        • Align with various stakeholders (distributor, Sales department, Marketing department) to ensure smooth marketing operations and sharing of best practices with global teams
        • Monitor brand health and performance and ensure development in the right direction locally
        • Make the business case for and then guide the briefing and development of region-specific product (styles, designs, collaborations, and more)
        • Partner and collaborate with key stakeholders at HQ
        • Provide monthly business updates, budget forecasts to HQ
        • Handle all regional operations and administrative issues with back-office support from HQ
        • Develop scalable marketing solutions that can be used by our other markets
        • Be the legal representative for China
        • Represent and drive the brand in China

        Requirements & Skills

        • Fluency in English & Mandarin, both written and spoken
        • 3+ years of experience from a Marketing Manager role
        • Bachelor’s degree, preferably in relevant field such as marketing, business etc.
        • Understanding of the Chinese market
        • Experience from a European company
        • 3+ years of experience from leading a team
        • 8+ years of experience in marketing
        • Experience & understanding of how to drive brand relevance in the digital space
        • Culture fit for HS
        • International mindset
        • Ability to work independently / proven ability to take initiative

        It's a plus if you also have: 

        • Master’s/MBA degree
        • Experience from working close with/at a European HQ
        • Experience from a similar start-up market
        • Experience from the fashion industry
        • Experience from working with wholesale channels & distributors

You are comfortable working both strategically and operationally within a fast-paced start-up environment while yet an established, global company.
